01/24/2017 Man Arrested On Weapon And Drug Charges

ST. THOMAS, V.I. - V.I. Superior Court Magistrate Henry Carr III found probable cause to sustain weapon and drug charges against Reinaldo Corneiro of Estate Fortuna.

Police arrested Corneiro, 31, early Monday morning and charged him with one count each of third-degree assault (domestic violence), using a dangerous weapon, possession of an unlicensed firearm, cultivation of marijuana, disturbance of the peace (domestic violence) and unauthorized possession of ammunition stemming from an Oct. 7, 2016 incident at his Estate Fortuna residence.

According to the probable cause fact sheet filed by police officer, Celeste Potter, Corneiro assaulted a woman with a gun. When police arrived on the scene, they executed a search warrant on the premises and found a .38 caliber handgun with six rounds, one plastic bag containing 30 rounds of .38-caliber ammunition, two hand gun magazines, another plastic bag containing six rounds of .38-caliber ammunition, one Red shotgun slug and 47 pots of marijuana plants, Potter wrote.

Police arrested Corneiro and he was held without bail pending his initial court appearance.

At his advice-of-rights hearing Tuesday, Carr set Corneiro’s bail at $50,000 cash or property and ordered him to abide by a number of court-imposed bail conditions, which include house arrest.
Corneiro’s arraignment, at which he will formally answer to the charges, is slated for Feb. 9.
